I’m an enterprise reporter for The New Bedford Light, a news website in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Since I joined The Light in 2022, my enterprise coverage has mainly focused on housing, transportation, and local government. I’ve broken down the economic forces shaping our housing crisis, and the policies local leaders have proposed to address it. I also covered the launch of a long-delayed commuter rail expansion that now connects New Bedford to Boston.
More recently, I’ve reported on mistreatment and a lack of state oversight in Massachusetts nursing homes. My data-driven investigation found that half of the state’s nursing homes are out of compliance with lightly enforced state staffing minimums, putting residents at risk.
I’m a tenacious public records requester. My investigation into high-risk pandemic relief grants used city records to show that New Bedford officials acted against the advice of their own auditors. That story was only possible because The Light prevailed in a public records lawsuit against the city, after I persistently negotiated and appealed for months. My reporting was recognized as a finalist in the 2026 Center for Integrity in News Reporting Awards and contributed to The Light being recognized with the New England Newspaper and Press Association’s 2025 Press Freedom Award.
I love using data in my reporting, especially when I’m building tools that make it more accessible to readers. I’ve mapped city service requests, categorized campaign contributions, and analyzed mortgage applications to dig deeper in my beats.
I graduated summa cum laude from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2022. Before that, I completed a fellowship at WBUR where I contributed to award-winning projects on police accountability and transparency. My work has also appeared in GBH News, Gray TV news stations, The Daily Dot, and various Massachusetts newspapers.
